Fashion Photographers Tricks and Tips

The Art Of Photography

Skeptics think that photography is just a case of luck when taking pictures. While this can happen, there are also many fashion photographers who can transform their shots into masterpieces just by considering the many factors that make a picture awe inspiring. Others think that it is not at all in how good your camera is but in the talent of the photographer.

Focus On The Product

The focus of a fashion photographer is to amplify the look and value of a certain fashion or design that needs to be advertised. Most professionals who take pictures that focus on fashion and glamour are either hired to take pictures of models, designer products and other subjects focused in the fashion industry. Many of these professionals make a name for themselves by making very attention catching pictures and even by being a baby photographer.

Actually, the light or the absence of can be made into art in photography if you are creative enough. You can still take pictures in dim light if you want to by adjusting the speed of your camera to gather up as much light as possible while taking the picture. This is how some pictures turn out to be works of art because the lights depicted in the scene are sort of moving. So light, or the absence of it, is an important factor to photography. It is up to the person taking pictures just how creative he can get using the light and its absence.

Another important factor to photography is the framing of the shot. Some scenes look so great in person but turn out not as awesome in pictures. The reason for this is that what we see through our eyes is not limited by the frame of the picture but the picture is. In photography, the person taking the pictures needs to consider the fact that the pictures are cut to a certain size and when they take pictures, what is in the frame in the viewfinder is what you get. You might find it useful to bring a small frame with you when taking professional pictures, especially of landscapes or nature since these are usually large scale.

Being a fashion photographer means that one has to draw out the model and make her or him express certain emotions. This is the reason why some of them talk to the models before the photo shoot to be able to get their message across to the model and tell them what they expect from the model. Being able to draw out what a fashion photographer wants from the model is something that is dependent on the rapport between the model and the fashion photographer.

Sell digital photographs

Filed under: News and Views - 18 Jan 2009

With prices of digital cameras going down everyday, most everyone nowadays has one or even two.If you want to be taken seriously as a photographer, you need to have semi current photo equipment.  And increasingly, these amateurs have taken to selling their digital works on the internet. This is a good way to earn some extra income from home without a second job.  You could make several hundred dollars a month with just the right photo.  Here are some tips on how to sell photographs

Selling photographs online means that there is less of an overhead, and potentially more exposure.  But before a picture can be sold, there are several criteria a buyer would look for:  sharp pictures with clear details; high-resolution (multi-megapixel) upwards of 10 megapixel; not grainy and without any artifacts; and if possible, in TIFF format and not JPEG;  and the picture has to be interesting and unique. You don't need to be another nature photographer and take pictures everyone already has.

The pictures can be sold online as prints.  The buyer can choose which sizes and which print media he wants, and once printed, this is delivered to his doorstep.  This is usually the case for collectibles, like posters, or fan art, etc. There are several legit photo sites like shutterstock, fotolia, and dreamstime that make selling photographs easy.  These are some of the best places to sell photographs.

On the other hand, those with established websites sell picture compilations.  These compilations are on CDs, or even on DVDs.  They may not have the same high resolution as prints, however, the pictures in the disk might be of multiple copies of the same pictures but different sizes, for different PC screen resolutions.  The disks are ordered and sent via courier or post to the buyers address.

For stock and microstock photography, there are some additional requirements for a photograph to sell.  These should be generic, concept pictures which depict an idea, concept or a story; or travel pictures for tourist destinations or attractions.

Super Features of the Canon SD750 Review

Filed under: News and Views - 16 Jan 2009

Canon resumes its position at the top of all camera manufacturers. The design, performance, and quality is hard to match.

Here’s my overall review of the Canon SD750 or sometimes spelled, Cannon SD750

When it comes to the top brands, Canon is right there in the top 2. I’m not just a digital camera admirer, I actually own one of these babies. I have several brands, including Sony, and I prefer the Canon.

Not only does Canon shine in the performace arena but they also outshine their competitors in quality. The difference between the SD700 and the SD750 is pretty much in the mega pixels. Bigger is always better, so the Canon SD750 wins.

However, there the IS (image stabilization) feature was left out of this model. I have come to use this feature in my Canon SLR all time and it does make a notable difference. This in my opinion was a mistake, but Canon won me over in all the other outstanding features and performance so I had to agree with the main reviews that I’ve seen. Actually, it’s truly a digital wonder.

The Canon SD750 includes a 3” LCD screen. This is quite large for an LCD camera screen. There is a trade off due to the size in that there is no optical viewfinder. This may not bother most people, but if you are used to using a viewfinder it may take a while to get used to the loss of it.

The feature where this camera seems to glow is the movie feature. I have a Sony digital camera and I have to say the Canon SD750’s movie feature is better. There are a nice variety of special effects you can play with including the fad-in fad-out and other effects. The VGA frame rate is 30 frames per second. The time lapse feature is something to drool over as you can record up to 2 full hours of movies then take and condense them into a shorter more enjoyable movie.

The time lapse feature will turn any novice movie producer into a pro just by clipping out all the junkie boring shots as well as mistakes. It’s fun and it’s the feature that I found rather hard to resist.

The Canon SD750 has so many features to talk about it would make this article into a book. So, instead, I’ll just point out a few other worthy features you’ll want to think about if considering buying this model. It has 17 shooting modes for the novice who is not interested in playing around with the ISO, shutter speeds or aperture setting. Just select your scene, be it day or night, sporting or close up portraits, it’s a click and go fully automatic wonder.

Whether you are an advance photographer or a novice, you can jump right in an d enjoy this little gem. My final analyses is that this is a great choice in both the price and brand.

Best ways to sell your pictures

Filed under: News and Views - 14 Jan 2009

Selling a picture is like selling a book.It takes a lot of time and effort.  The photographer owns the rights to the photo but he can sell the rights or he can sell prints of the picture. This article will help you learn how to sell pictures.

Selling the rights to use the picture is best done by submitting to a stock photo agency. You could sign up and submit all your photos.  In effect the photos are on display in the shop waiting for a client with a requirement.  If the picture fits the requirements, then the buyer can sign up for using the picture.  This can be for a single or specific use, or for use of the photo for a specific length of time. This is one of the best places to sell pictures.

Alternatively, like a book, the picture can be sold as a print. There are several sites that will help you setup a portfolio to sell pictures.  The buyer chooses what size prints he wants and these are sent via courier.

Of course, the photographer can also have his own website, where he can sell the prints themselves.  This might be a good idea if he has a sizable portfolio.  He would also need to be advertising or spreading the word about his website.  He can do this via the use of internet marketing and SEO techniques. This may be the most difficult part for photographers to make money since they are great at taking pictures but not on PR.  This is where it would be wise to hire someone better than you if you can afford it.

Having your own website where you sell prints would be particularly useful if you have a brick-and-mortar shop or studio.  The website can be a venue for advertising, as well as a source of additional income where he can have his clients order prints instead of going to the studio. You could showcase your work on stock photo sites and then grow to your own site as you build a prescence.  This would be an option for aspiring photos with limited capital.
