Why I recommend using search engines to find photography information

Filed under: News and Views - 30 Jul 2009

This write-up was written as a result of a research that led me to discover that whilst the web is second nature to most people there are still millions of people who are interested in photography and have not yet mastered the art of using the internet.

It is now very easy to find any kind if specific information about about photography instantly. Just a few years back you needed to take the whole morning at the library skimming through hundreds of books.

Now you can do it in less than five minutes. You can simply enter a search query and just like that you have a huge categorized and highly relevant list to choose from about photography or niches topics of the same subject.

With so much information presented by search engines the speed and efficiency of using the web can deteriorate if you don’t know how to use it the right way.

Take some time to read through these few but useful operators that you can use. It is not my intention to waste your time with too much information especially because this is simply a helpful guide to help you find the exact information you are looking for. To some this may be just a refresher “course” but I still do encourage you to read on.

Currently the most popular search engine is Google so the tips are more focused on Google.com but you can use them on Yahoo.com.

To make sure your search returns only the pages with the EXACT information you are looking for simply put inverted commas. For example if you want to find course about photography, just type in “photography courses”, If for example you want careers just enter “photography careers”. What you will get there is a list of pages that contain the exact words searched for.

Another alternative is to use the “+” operator. For instance, entering a terms such as “documentary about photography”+ “photography books” will produce results that have both terms appearing somewhere within the page.

You can enter the word “site:” at the beginning of your search followed by the site name and your keyword.Using this one will enable you to search through a site of your choice only.

By following these tips you should be in a better position to find anything online, could be you interest - photography or information you may need in the near future like how to do a reverse search on a cell phone number.

This site offers great content that should help you a great deal. So do take some time to read more of the articles posted here.

Nikon D90 Review

Filed under: News and Views - 29 Jul 2009

The DSLR camera market is like an exciting boxing match. Every camera manufacturer wants to emerge a winner and in order to win, they are aiming for the deadly upper cut. Read on for the Nikon D90 review.

Presently, the newest Nikon D90 holds the world title. Many people around the world have instantly become fans, with the D90’s “feature-packed fistful of photo fury” as one reviewer puts it. Read on to see how other people view the D90:

TBone from Ohio

I am very happy with the D90. It captures great photos in the automatic setting and if you want to be creative with the manual settings, you will not be dissatisfied. The camera’s video mode is a great feature as well. While it does not have an auto focus feature for the video mode it is still kind of nice.

Frantisek Dano from Naples, FL

The D90 is a great piece of technology; the 18-105mm lens package is a good start. I am utilizing the factory settings for around 95% of capturing. When you put your images on the web, you will not see the differences between pro cameras and D90.

The Nikon D90’s controls are very simple and easy to learn. Even an amateur can capture great photos from the very beginning. It is my newest pet and hobby.

Isaac Ramirez, Costa Rica

The Nikon D90 really exceeded my prospects about a DSLR. The Nikon D90 offers many controls, customizations, freedom for imagination on non-auto settings, smart focusing mechanism, and ease of use; allowing you to compose, frame, and focus the shot in the best way possible. My best purchase ever!

A. Elshamaa (Los Angeles, CA)

I have done extensive research before getting myself the latest Nikon D90 and I am happy to say that it does not disappoint. I purchased the Nikon D90 more than six months ago and the picture result is excellent. I am an amateur photographer, but you do not have to be a pro to use it.

Lighting Tips For Photography

Filed under: News and Views - 29 Jul 2009

Photography requires a few skills to make your prints look professional.  One part of making a print professional is lighting.  Lighting in photography takes a little planning and understanding of a few techniques.  You best subject or object might not turn out that way if the proper light does not help to laminate the area. Below are a few tips on using light for photography.

You must decide first to use either artificial or natural sunlight.  If you are using sunlight you will rely on the Kelvin scale to determine the temperature of light and therefore the color of light.  The color of light is important to maintaining the colors you see around you.  For instance the warmer the light the redder the light will be, thus you may need to pick the time you will go out and shoot photographs. Outdoor lighting offers so many different times to take pictures depending on your need.

Next digital photography needs to understand the sun’s color scale.Softer colors often evoke more emotion because pictures tend to lead viewers towards certain feelings.  So understanding the suns impact on the colors will help you find the correct time of day.  The sun evokes blue hues in the morning hours, while closer to noon you will find more neutral colors.  The neutral colors can take away some of the definition you want in your print.  Knowing how you want to shot the picture will also help you determine when you wish to take the shot.

When using natural light you will need to work with the angle and direction of the sunlight.  If the sunlight is broad and diffused you will have softer shadows while the more narrow the light is focused the more shadow you can create.  Often at noon when the sun is in mid arc you lose definition of the subject.  The subject could look grainy.  This is why shadow is used; the shadows can give you more quality to the print if used correctly. This adds to the beauty of your pictures.

You can also modify sunlight through certain techniques.  Modifying sunlight when taking portraits outdoors requires the use of a background.  You may wish for a breath taking landscape that will provide more composition to the photo.  You may need to block the sun if it interferes with you or your subject’s sight.A white surface will fill the shadows so you may want to use one.  Landscape photography requires less work than usually natural light for portraits.  In fact using natural sunlight for landscape photography without modifications can yield you a better photograph.

Landscape photography uses nature to provide the light and shadows.  This is why you need to understand the light scale and temperature. The most important aspect of using sunlight is time.  To understand natural lighting you need to understand the affects the sun will have at certain times of the day. When you are a highly forested area, unless the sun is directly overhead it wont be able to stream in like it should. You need to move around your subject to find the best angle with the sun because you will have natural shadows in the forest.

Photography is an art that requires techniques and practice.A major part of photography, especially if you are using natural light is the lighting.Depending on the time of day, sunlight can bring plenty of shadows or it can take them away as well.  Knowing the best time to take a photograph depends on the sun’s angle.  Digital Photography is an interesting hobby and profession when practiced properly will give you plenty of prints for your home and others.

Whether you are a professional or a novice photographer, you want to produce some exquisite pictures with the proper lighting. With this in mind, choose your lighting according to your needs and the needs of your subject or object. Your pictures will be delightful with brightness when you use the best lighting situation.

Top 3 Photo to Oil Painting Services Reviewed

Filed under: News and Views - 28 Jul 2009

Chances are you have tons of photographs lying around. Some may be digital, others traditional photographs. Many of us would like to convert photos to oil painting but aren’t sure “how” to do this.

Up until a few years ago, old fashioned artists would check out photos and convert them to art by simply "eyeing" them. Artists would use the photo as a frame of reference and sketch the photo, fill it and paint it…layer by layer.

Nowadays, the scene has changed. With the introduction of digital software programs like Corel Painter, Adobe Photoshop and PaintShop Pro, many people are attempting to paint their photos. Many realize it really isn’t that easy and still requires a lot of work.

The majority of people that give painting a shot give up. You see, the same principles that apply to the old days still applies to the digital age. You have to be gifted with art to create your own paintings by yourself. So the next obvious choice is outsourcing, or asking someone else to paint your photos.

With the introduction of the internet, you no longer need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars trying to retain a local artist to convert your photo to an oil painting. Now there are many websites that consolidate artists and paint canvases in record time with phenomenal results. These artists are quite skilled and will make any photo come alive with beautiful colors, brush strokes and modern painting methods.

So the next logical question still remains. With all the websites out there, which one can I trust the most to convert a photo to an oil painting? Luckily, the team at PhotoPainting.us has gone through all the rigorous testing and found the 3 big winners. We compared delivery time and quality and there was one clear winner. Visit www.PhotoPainting.us to see our top results.
